Northern Ireland Veterans Movement (NIVM)
This week NIVM spokesman Paul Young met Veterans Minister Leo Docherty at Stormont and made clear that there would be major repercussions if legislation was not forthcoming to protect former soldiers from vexatious prosecutions. Although we are confident of the Minister’s support the same cannot be said of the Northern Ireland Office. We are convinced that the NIO who are proposing the bill will renege on publishing the draft legislation with the excuse that further consultation is required.
Meanwhile prosecutions continue. Dennis Hutchings, one victim of this persecution has asked for an early trial so that he can be cleared (again) before he dies of kidney failure. He has been waiting for six years.
