campaign

NIVM is a focal point for all the veterans’ groups who want to add their voices to our fight to stop the persecution and prosecution of soldiers who served in Northern Ireland (NI) on Operation Banner between 1969 and 1999.

Our campaign started in 2015 with the third attempted prosecution of Dennis Hutchings and gradually grew nationally into a variety of individual groups all working towards the same objective. To stop the persecution and prosecution of soldiers who had been previously investigated and cleared of wrongdoing. In 2018 the largest groups formed a loose confederation and agreed to cooperate under a few chosen representatives. Since then those representatives have represented the NI veterans as witnesses at the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee and as spokesmen with The NI veterans commissioner, the Secretary of State NI and the Malone House Group.

Under One Banner

Our ‘loose confederation’ has now chosen to be recognised under an all encompassing banner the Northern Ireland Veterans Movement and welcomes all groups and individuals who support our aims.
